The Potter’s Wheel

Would you dare love a Goddess?
Selene works with the earth, finding solace in the way the clay forms beneath hands that tremble and betray her. The memory of a lost love eludes her, until one day a woman like no other wanders into her shop and reminds her that there is a Goddess in us all, some more than others.

Pomegranate: Book One in the Myth and Magic Series

What if everything you thought you knew was a lie?
Crafting spells and hanging with her girlfriend Hayden was all Persephone Carraway wanted out of life. When her mother, Demi, develops a designer pomegranate, infusing it with ritual power for Fae and witch kind alike, all bets are off. A single act of destruction unearths a bevy of secrets and lies kept hidden for centuries. Persephone is drawn into a web of myth and magick where nothing is at it seems, even herself.

Excerpt from The Potter’s Wheel:

“These are incredible,” Myna said, flashing Selene an awed expression before returning her gaze to the sculptures in front of her. “You have captured the movement of the elements so well, yet retained a feminine quality about them. Born and giving birth to creation at the same time.” Selene’s breath caught in her throat when Myna reached out to touch the smooth surface, her hands caressing the carefully wrought clay that seemed to dance beneath her touch. Strong, slim fingers found each curve much as Selene’s had years ago, channeling the movements that had created the form before fire and glaze set its shape into temporary permanence. Selene had no misconceptions about her art. Porcelain gave the illusion of strength, but it would shatter beneath an ungentle touch. “Please, be careful,” Selene begged. “What’s wrong?” “Bringing you here was a mistake, I shouldn’t have shown you these. Not when I have no intention of ever selling them.” Selene’s excuse sounded thin, even to her own ears. What she needed was Myna to stop, to stop moving…to stop teasing her with caresses that were best left to warm flesh, not cold clay and porcelain.

Excpert from Pomegranate:

“Good morning, beautiful.” Her lover stood at the counter as Allyse pulled out her order. Giving her a quick kiss, she tucked the pomegranate back into her pocket.

“Hey, there.” Dark eyes twinkled mischievously beneath the heavy black rimmed glasses. Red lips curved up like the cat that got the cream. Hayden’s arms wrapped around Persephone, pulling her into a deep kiss.  Her hand reached around for a quick grope, but Persephone slapped it away.

“Public!” Heat crept up her neck.

“Get a room you two!” Candice snickered. “And you tease us. Honestly. Raging hormones of twenty something lesbians. What do you think, Allyse? Should we hose them down?”

“I think you’re gonna get us both fired if you don’t shut up and go make some cookies.” Allyse glared.

“Girl has a point.” Hayden smiled, looping her arm around Persephone’s shoulder. “So…are you going to demonstrate these new bath salts for me or do I have to go home by myself again?”

Candice giggled, coming out of the kitchen with the mini broom and the dust pan. “Demonstration!” Persephone glared. Candice ran off, fake screaming as she swooped back into the kitchen. “Going! Going.”

Allyse rolled her eyes.

Persephone screwed up her lips into what should have been a smile but ended up as a loud burst of laughter. “Maybe we should pick up some duct tape.”

“Oh. Is something broken?” Allyse frowned.

Hayden bit her lip. “I think what she’s trying to say is the duct tape is for our friend in the kitchen.”

“Oh!” Allyse grinned. “I might just have some in my car. If it doesn’t work on her mouth, maybe I can think of some other uses.”

“I knew I liked you.” Hayden held out her hand so she and the younger girl could slap palms over the counter.

“I heard that.” A feminine growl came from the kitchen.

“Good!” Persephone replied. “Now make me some cookies.”

“And you. Draw me a bath. I have some aches that just won’t quit.” Hayden ran her fingers down Persephone’s arm.

“Oh, Goddess.” Allyse rolled her eyes again. “Go already. I’ll tell your mom you went out on an errand.”

“You’re the best.

Rhavensfyre is the collaborative pen name used by two east coast writers, Roxanne and KL, who have been partners since 2000 and were finally legally married in Washington, D.C. in 2012. They have a small farm in North Carolina where they raise and breed horses with their two dogs and several cats in tow. In their spare time, they try to keep an organic garden and enjoy the fact that their farm is also home to several owls, a mated pair of hawks, one annoying woodpecker and the occasional bald eagle. In addition to the living creatures, KL and Roxanne enjoy cycling various East Coast trails as well as hiking the Appalachian Trail. Both ladies enjoy photography and love to share images from their frequent trips through the scenic countryside.

Roxanne, known to her friends as “Roxy,” is an Oklahoma native who lived in various states before graduating from a Los Angeles area high school. An avid artist, she spent ten years in the military–both Army and Navy–before embarking upon her second career. While serving as a patriot missile operator in the Army, she landed a coveted position as post artist, allowing her to pursue her creative passion on a full-time basis. After transferring to the Navy, she served as a hospital corpsman, deployed twice to the Middle East while assigned to a USN warship. She also worked in security during her last year of active duty before leaving the military for a career in healthcare. Roxy holds two bachelor’s degrees: one in criminal justice and a second in healthcare. Her personal interests include mythology, ancient history, and psychology, and she cites walking through the ancient city of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, as one of the most amazing experiences she had while serving in the United States Navy.

KL was born in Norfolk, Virginia and lived most of her life in the South. She was professionally educated as a horse trainer and riding instructor, and she had innumerable wins in the Western Pleasure circuits until a traumatic back injury in 1999 prevented her from riding for many years. Today, she still pleasure rides, as well as breeds American Quarter Horses. KL is an avid cyclist, but her love of cycling doesn’t end with the local trails. She enjoys collecting and restoring antique bikes as well as tinkering with her own ride, doing all of the work herself. She is also accomplished in metalwork–from her work as a farrier to unique knife designs and artwork with steel and iron. Music is a big part of her life, and in her free time she enjoys strumming any of her three guitars or joining the owls by playing haunting notes on her didgeridoo.

Switching Gears is their first book. Also follow the adventures of Rowan and Chase.
